The practices that made software teams effective — a clear direction, work broken into stories, explicit standards, a review at the end — were not bureaucracy. They were how a group of people stayed pointed the same way while moving quickly.
Those practices were built for human teams and largely abandoned when the work moved to agents, at exactly the moment the coordination problem got harder. An agent will follow a vague instruction further, faster, and more confidently than a person ever would.

Direction beats throughput
An agent that produces quickly in the wrong direction is worse than one that produces slowly in the right one, because the wrong work still has to be understood, reviewed, and undone. Speed is only worth having once direction is settled.
Standards have to be written down
“Good” cannot live only in your head if the work is being done by something that cannot read it. Stories, acceptance criteria, and constraints are how intent survives contact with an agent — and how you can tell afterwards whether it was met.
The review always ends with you
Judgment is the part that does not delegate. Northstar is built so that work arrives at a decision point with the context you need to make the call — not so that the call gets made for you while you are elsewhere.
What you learn should outlast the tool
Ideas and decisions tend to be stranded wherever they were typed. Anything worth keeping should be recorded once and available everywhere you think — not trapped in the transcript of whichever assistant happened to be open.
